Academy Of Art Designers Shine At New York Fashion Week

Fashion experts from around the world flock to New York City for the semi-annual New York Fashion Week. Famed designers and celebrities watch as models walk the runway in the season’s newest fashion lines. The event garners the attention of international media outlets, stylists and fashionistas.

An appearance at New York Fashion Week can turn a budding designer into a household name. That fact hasn’t been overlooked by the Academy of Art University. Ten designers who recently graduated from the Academy of Art with either a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree or a Master of Fine Arts Degree debuted their new fashion line during the week-long celebration at Skylight Clarkson Square.

This was the 21st time the Academy of Art held a runway showcase at New York Fashion Week. The designers, who have backgrounds ranging from Maine to China, displayed five collections for women and two for men. There were also several collaborations amongst the group. Several industry giants attended the show including Miss J Alexander, a popular runway coach who appeared on America’s Next Top Model, and Sara Kozlowski, the Director of Education and Professional Development at the Council of Fashion Designers of America. The looks from the show can be viewed here.

The Academy of Art was founded in 1929 by the well-known painter and magazine editor Richard S. Stephens. Since its inception, the Academy of Art has grown from a small school focused on advertising art to the largest privately owned art school in America.

The main campus of the Academy of Art is situated on one of the largest properties in all of San Francisco. The school prides itself on immersing students in the art and culture of the area. Students who elect to live on campus are housed in 17 buildings located throughout the city, allowing for an exciting student life. Online classes are also available.

Richard S. Stephens had a vision when he founded the Academy of Art. He wanted to create an academy that fostered its students love of art, regardless of what was demonstrated in their art portfolio. Judging by the talent showcased during New York Fashion Week, the founder’s vision has been realized.
